Hi all,
I completed the NEBOSH General Certificate 2 years ago, and was extremely lucky in gaining a position with a small independent H&S consultancy serving mainly the construction industry. I can honestly say it`s probably the best job I`ve ever done, for sheer variety and challenges.
However I need to progress my personal development and need to know which course I should be aiming for next. I have been getting conflicting information about the usefulness of some courses. Some have recommended NEBOSH Diploma, others have decried it.
I have tried to speak to my boss about it, but we are a very busy office. He has said though that he has been very pleased with my progress.
I now carry out site inspections and after attending 3 day course, scaffold inspections solo.
My weakness is one of confidence. I know I can do this job, but feel I need a structured learning path to back this up. At the moment, it`s a little of everything, policy,COSHH,H&S Plans, with no structure. When I get time, I try and research on the web, but again, how do I know what I am picking up is still valid if it is not from a recognised course or there is no measure of my abilities?
Hope you guys can help....

Mike
Go for a diploma it's your destiny given the experience you have gained so quickly. which diploma is up to you as funding is always an issue. I self funded and took the NTU route and never looked back.
If funding becomes an issue for you, go for a mature student loan from your bank.
15 months of study, researching, assignments, exams and self questioning will give you all the confidence you need as well as pave the way for your future.
Good luck
