Hi All,
I have been in a Health and Safety Management Role for the last 3 yrs and have a total of 5yrs experience in Manufacturing and chemicals.
I am now looking to move into the Construction industry and have experience and knowledge of the CDM regulations, having been involved in the management of 3 large refurbishment projects, building internal structures. I managed the latest project as both Client and Principle Contactor and this has given me a taste for the sector.
I am qualified to certificate level at present and will complete my Diploma early next year. If I were to stay in the industry I am in, I would be looking for a more senior role in the near future, however; my preference would be to take on a junior role in Construction and feel my experience and desire would aid a quick progression within the sector.
I don't have any ties and would relocate pretty much anywhere, including the middle east, where I have a number of friends working.
I would be interested in your opinion of my chances of finding such a role at home or abroad and would be even more interested if you know of any positions available.
Many Thanks,
Scott

The title of this post should have been Britain or Dubai Junior Role - my keyboard must have frozen.

Also agree, dont knock your certificate. The right man with only a cert can go surprisingly far.
Also agree that NEBOSH int cert is getting more recognition in the ME but it only shows that someone can study. I have two sub continent advisors working for me who have degrees in H n S yet will only ever be fit for basic site work as they have no other skills to offer and if the budget would allow me to have experienced UK expat cert holders then trust me I would offering jobs to some good men I know.
Best bet is to get on with a company in the UK who has overseas operations, get your experience in the UK, develop your other people management skills and then transfer out. I know a few guys who have taken that route and done very nicely.
Alternatively chance your arm and take a flight out to Dubai. Hit the expat bars, stay sober, get there early and tell everyone in the bar you are looking for an opportunity. If that doesnt work then walk to every construction site in the city and ask to see the safety manager. You may well get an interview because you are there on the ground and can be seen without any expense. You may not get the best salary in the world for the first year but you might get your chance.
