Posted By philip john Hi Graham Basically it is down to the question of do you have much experience in the construction industry if the answer is yes then this course is perfect for you, if not then be prepared to get knocked back by lots of different companies (if you are not paying for it then take the course, if you are paying for it then as long as you have adequate funds to pay for this course then also take it) I say this because taking these 'NEBOSH' courses is not the answer to everything (i.e. securing a job). I have undertaken Nebosh courses since 2005- General cert Fire cert Diploma Unit A (pass) On Unit B Construction cert (awaiting for results) And guess what (well you don't have to guess) I still can not break into the Health & Safety industry, Why (you guessed it again) very little experience in Health & Safety. I left the Pharmaceutical industry (took voluntary redundancy after 17 years)(Senior process operator) to pursue a career in the health & safety sector, and sometimes I wish I hadn't bothered at all. I have spent nearly £5000 on courses(Welsh assembly refused to pay for the course (diploma) because they said it was too long) which at the moment I see as a waste of my redundancy. So where am I now (you guessed it) job seekers allowance. So to every one who believes there is a pot of gold at the end of the 'Nebosh rainbow' think again. This may sound like a long exasperated moan but I wouldn't like to see anyone bottle up the stress that I have bottled up through going down this line of work. So to every one thinking of taking Nebosh or other health & safety courses, (if you have a job and your company puts you through it 'DO IT') don't just up sticks from your job and go down the route I took or you may regret ever hearing the word 'NEBOSH'........

Posted By DJ Graham Philip Many thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated. Fortunately I work for a very big company and have served enough years to qualify for a well deserved resettlement package/grant. However, I fully understand your point and take it on board 100%. Thankfully I have a lot of years under my belt dealing with engineering H&S (in a military workshop environment) so I just need to transfer these skills over to the civilian one. Fingers crossed that 22yrs of Engineering Safety will count for something :) Thanks again for the reply and I hope something does come your way soon. Kind regards, Dave
