I have got an offer letter from Uni of Glamorgan to study MSc Safety, health and Environmental Mangement. This course leads to a professional registration with ISOH as a Graduate Member.
I am not yet sure about the job market of Health and Safety. Does this degree/ registration opens the door to a wide job market? What sort of job and/or work place will be working for?
Please share your ideas and experiences to this rookie.
Many Thanks
Ben

This will depend on your industry experience? qualifications are good but you will struggle if you have no trade, profession or work experience to relate to.
good luck.

Thanks Mike !
I am completely new to this field. I have never worked as a health and safety personal at any level.
By qualification and profession I am a dental nurse now and have worked as same at different institutions in past 3 years.
Where do I stand in finding a job after having the post grad degree in Health and Safety??

I agree with Mike; without experience, you will probably find it difficult to get your first job in health and safety. Can you get some experience (shadowing, internship, etc) while studying for your degree?

Hi !
Can i ask you what the University asked you in relation to qualifications you have because i was always under the impression that you had to have a qualification in H&S to gain entry. I,ve got NVQ4 and i know some uni's won't accept you if you don't have the Diploma. It's just that you said you were new to H&S and i was curious. I can try for entry through Portsmouth Uni through my NVQ4, however i've not gone for it yet. Good luck with the course anyway !

Because of your dental experience, a specialist (and lucrative) area of H&S that might be of interest to you is that of Radiation Protection Advisor, under the Ionising Radiation Regs?

Karen is correct about there being a lot of opportunities for Radiation Protection Advisors in the UK.
However unless you are already working in the radiation protection field it is unlikely you would have the experience to obtain a Certificate of Competence as is required under IRR99 in the UK.

Yes - could be difficult though not impossible. Find out who the RPS & RPA are for your dental work and pick their brains.
It just sprang to mind as a potential opportunity as I know someone who is a self employed RPA, and the first people she targeted her marketing activities at were dentists and vets!

Thanks everyone for responding.
RPA at Dental Pracitce: Generally Principal Dentist is the RPA. BUT, I am half way through Dental Radiography, which qulaifies me to be RPA in a Dental Practice, but again I wont have no any experience as RPA.
Practical experience as an Inturn/student: How much will this count when finding a job? I am ready and willing to take even some volunteer job related to HSE.
Reply to JJ:
I was given enrolment into the course on the basis of my BSc Heath Science degree from Uni of Aberdeen.( Not Dental Nursing)
