Posted By C Wilson Hi, I am new to the site so firstly, hello! I am really just looking for some general advice in relation to my proposed career in Health and Safety. In my office based current role, Health & Safety is more of an additional duty than a major part of the role. However, as I really enjoy that side of things, I will be starting the NEBOSH Gen Cert in August which lasts 14 weeks on day release. Subsequently, I am looking to do, either, the NEBOSH Diploma or a BA Occupational Health & Safety Management degree at a Glasgow Uni, which can be done over two years, part -time. What I'd really like to know is how would I stand entering the H&S environment with either a Grad IOSH qualification or NEBOSH Dip? Which would be best viewed by a potential employer? Would my lack of firm job experience hamper my chances in interviews? Thanks for your help! Chris.

Posted By Glyn Atkinson Put all your experience down on your C/V as a percentage of current weekly work - so.. 50 % per week safety work over one year = 26 weeks experience. The interviewer can then equate your length of experience with confidence, and you can relate the actual experiences during any interview process. That's how I started off, 50% daily safety rep work during the day's full time employment over six years, and volunteering to risk assess processes in a local charity shop in my free time. This also expanded my knowledge in two sector groups not just in chemical manufacturing.

Posted By Dave Wilson GradIOSH is a grade within IOSH and you get this with a NEBOSH Dip / NVQ / H&S Degree so it doesn't matter what route you go down GradIOSH will be the starting point for membership.
