Hi everyone....
I am starting a national general certificate in occupational safety and health(NEBOSH)in September and i would like to get a head start so can anyone point me in the right direction on what books i should be studying or anything online i can look up i have no previous experience in this field so the more help the better. I am hoping to make a career out of this so help please please please.

There are many books out there and your course provider should be able to tell you the one that they recommend.
One of the most helpful things that i found when i took the course was the past exam papers with the answers included. These are available from the 'shop' section of the NEBOSH website.
I felt that they gave me an excellent idea of what the examiners were looking for, and exactly how to answer the questions, which is quite important when doing a NEBOSH exam. Although how to answer the questions should also be covered by your tutor.

The fact you have started to think about getting a head start is a wise move and a strong indicator that you are motivated and committed. Relax and you will do just fine. I would echo the previous reply and agree that past papers are a very good idea and will give confidence. I sat my exams in July this year and completed 20 or more prior to the big day. I found the HSE web site immensely useful and still do. Having a brief understanding of the various regulations will be a big boost. The search facility on the site is excellent. Arming yourself with a few past papers and researching the site will help get the head start you are looking for. I personally found the law element the hardest to get my head around so if you are like me read a LITTLE on civil law, criminal law, common law and, statue law. Understand section 2 of the health and safety at work act and the management of health and safety at work act regs 3, 4 and 5.

I recently sat my Nat Cert exam in June.
The course provider (Stevenson College, Edin) issued the following books;
Guide to the NEBOSH Nat Gen Cert in Occupational H&S (July 2006)
A study book for the NEBOSH Nat Gen Cert RMS (4th Edition)
Successful H&S Management (HSG65)
H&S in Construction (HSG150)
I also bought
Introduction to Health and Safety at work (3rd Edition) Hughes Ferrett.
Reducing error and influencing behaviour. (HSG48)
Whilst its great getting a good start, be careful as I bought most of these books not realising that the course was providing them too! Also - don't read too much in one sitting, you will fall asleep. Not the most riveting of reads. Past papers are great once you start the course. If I have seen any before I went to college, I would have been petrified. Good Luck!
