I have recently been offered a very good oppurtunity to move from a HSE Advisor with engineering/manufacturing industry into CDM-C role with a large project management firm. This position is very exciting prospect and interesting development for my career, however before continuing i am wondering if any experience CDM-C would offer their advice to me regarding this change in career? I do not have an extensive background knowledge of construction design issues although i have dealt with CDM Regs previously and some involvement in PS role. Any advice would be appreciated.

hey gavin,
some pretty good answers to this post http://www.iosh.co.uk/in...um=2&thread=37112&page=1
maybe try searchin a few other posts on it too, its come up quiet a bit. without fully knowing the exact experience etc its a little hard to gauge, not that i or anyone else other than your employer should be conducting some kind of judgement on whether you can or cant do the job! you should look at what the role entails, see if you think there are similarities, maybe a few and see if there is stuff which you can pick up quickly and if there is already an experienced cdmc in place in this newe company who you could learn from. if you feel up to it go for it.

Moving into CDM-C can either be an opportunity to thrive or it can be somewhat of a poisoned chalice.
If you look in the back of SHP there are still a lot of vacancies for CDM-Cs and when I have discussed this with recruitment friends, they advise me that there are currently lots of practitioners who are seeking to leave this role.
On the positive side, this is a role that I enjoy and I have managed to build a talented team of practitioners around me, however I would strongly advise you to carefully choose the team who you work with.
With the right mentor you should thrive, but without this you will certainly fail!
