Posted By Carol East Kent I complete my NVQ Diploma shortly, I would appreciate some guidance on the next steps to take to progress my career in H&S. I work for Kent Police, a high risk working environment, ensuring compliance with all aspects of H&S, from basic housekeeping functions through to the operational perspectives. I am a civilian, with over 5 years of H&S experience in this specialised field. I am looking at advancing my career within H&S, not necessarily within the police environment. It is my view a lack of a construction knowledge is limiting potential alternative employment - Do you agree with me? I wouldn't want to waste the knowledge and experienced gained through completing the NVQ Diploma, with a variety of transferable skills I am looking for a new challenge. Any advice for future career prospects / further qualifications required would be greatly received. Carol caroljdutton@hotmail.com

Posted By stephen b jones Hi Carol,
Do you already have the construction cert? I work as a health and safety advisor in construction, but have 35 years experience within the industry which is a huge advantage. It does offer a very varied, hands on/mud and bullets type career, although it's not a good time to move into this sector. Good luck, Steve

Posted By Carol East Kent Thanks Steve, unfortunately no construction certification.
I am still undecided if this is the best way to go.
