I posted on the forum at the beginning of the month requesting interview help for a position with a local authority.

I would just like to thank all those people who posted positive feedback, a difficult interview, but i got the job.

And to the rest of the doubters, it was a council position that wasn't offered internally.

If you are looking for a start in health and safety, just persevere, keep applying and studying, a break comes eventually.

Once again Congratulations.

Very much congratulations. Well done.

As for doubting comments to your earlier post, just passing comment on the experiences that I have had over the years with LA recruitment.

It seems quite a few have had similar experiences.

Nobody said you wouldn't get the job, just that LAs do seem to have a tendency to offer jobs to existing internal candidates.

However I remain of the view that LA's pay scales are lower than many employers, and longer term prospects are not as good. However, as I'm sure many of us do in life - we make a trade off between salary/pensions, location, job security (relative term!), family commitments, job satisfaction etc.

If the job you have secured suits you, then all well and good. Thats all that matters.

Once again well done.

Congrats for getting the job, forewarned is forearmed as they say,

supervisors and managers in LA's tend not to be from the private sector but have been with the LA for a long time.

There is no communication between different teams or departments

They tend not to know anything about H & S, what they do know they do not want to know about.

They will be disinterested in your new procedures, it's not there job it's yours.

They all have their little fiefdoms.

As with all our work these days, keep records of what YOU do or have done.(hard copy)
