Hi Everyone.
I'm very keen to work in New Zealand in H&S. I have a level 8 degree in H&S. I am wondering does anyone know anything about what New Zealand criteria is for H&S officers/managers. Or can i do a course in Europe/online, on New Zealand legislation?
I appreciate all your comments,
Marcella.

Hi Marcella,
There are no formal qualification requirements in NZ to practice in OHS. It is a relatively unsophisticated market where recognition of IOSH and formal qualifications is not yet widespread. The key thing is to satisfy the Immigration Dept to get a work visa and then try and find work. Immigration are more likely to recognise a degree than Cert or DipOSH as they are not yet mapped onto the National Qualifications framework.
My company, Impac, are the only ones who deliver the IGC in NZ and we are working with NEBOSH and NZQA currently to get this mapping done and also working to get mutual recogition between NZISM and IOSH.
The best advice I give many would be immigrants is to come here first for a recce, meet people in the OHS business and put yourself in front of prospective employers who are more likely to be interested if you have taken the time to get over here than just on a CV. Its who you are that counts here most - can do approach, work ethic and willingness to learn - not what you are.
