Posted By redbriggsy Over the past year or so i have done: IOSH Managing Safely NEBOSH General Cert NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management cert I have enjoyed them all and passed the NEBOSH courses with distinction. Now wondering what next. I know that the NEBOSH Diploma is the one but i can't do this on a block basis as the time off work would be impossible and i'm not convinced work would go for it on a cost basis at the moment. I have worked for many years in Commercial Insurance including work on general Risk Management / Health & Safety topics for commercial clients. Regards Redbriggsy

Posted By Juan Carlos Arias What next? get a job where you can gain some experience of the knowledge you gained in the courses, soon you'll realise that you start learning even more and that'll give you time to be better prepared for the diploma when you do it.

Posted By redbriggsy I understand what you are both saying but i get a very healthy salary in my current job and i have seen several other threads on this site about how its almost impossible to get a H&S job at all with "just" the certificate level qualifications and not the Diploma. Cheers

Posted By CFT redbriggsy You misunderstand, I have most definitely not said the certificate is restrictive in achieving a good quality well paid H&S position, nor would I ever, which is why I don't get overly impressed when someone goes all out to get as many qualifications as quickly as possible, forgetting to get some experience along the way. Clearly then you have a good deal of experience as well which puts you in a really good position. Then to expand; if you have much experience why not think about about the NVQ4? Alternatively if you believe you need more taught learning the diploma may well be perfect for you; you can then apply the end result with further experience and have a combination of knowledge, qualifications and experience; all equally important (IMO) Take care CFT

Posted By Di Clarke Hi there, Am I to take it that from your eagerness to do another course that you are wanting to advance your IOSH status or professional development of some kind? If so, I completed the NEBOSH General Certificate and Construction Certificate, but then skipped out the Diploma. Instead I completed a distance learning Pgc in Occupational Health and Safety Management at the University of Portsmouth. It was hard work and a great deal of personal time had to be sacrificed, but it was very informative and dare I say enjoyable? The benefit to this course is that it takes a year and is a recognised fast track route to Chartered status (CMIOSH). However, I am now looking at going back to do a NEBOSH Diploma on a day release basis through a college. Have you looked into this possible route as it works out at around the £2,000 mark? Much more affordable than the training companies out there at £6-7,000? I hope that my ramblings may have helped and have not strayed too far away from your initial question.

Posted By Di Clarke Hi Redbriggsy, The college I am looking at is East Riding. I am not sure that this would be useful for you as I don't know what region you are in. I know that Stoke on Trent also do the Diploma for a similar price. The best thing for you to do would be to go onto the NEBOSH website and look for course providers in your local area. Then you can look at different colleges and universities and make enquiries directly. http://www.nebosh.org.uk.../Find_a_Course_Provider/ I hope that this helps. If you want any more information then of course just let me know. Merry Christmas Di

Posted By Philip Plume Hi redbriggsy, I am starting the Diploma day release on the 20th January at a cost of £2300. The course is run by Highbury college in Portsmouth. They may still have some places left. I did the cert there and gained a distinction, so its pretty good and affordable http://www.highbury.ac.u...rch/default.aspx?topic=0
