Martin,

If you join as an affiliate you get nothing after your name. to get cmiosh you need to be chartered and in order to do that you must pass through ipd etc as either as a tech iosh - usually given to persons who've worked in the industry for about 5 years, or grad iosh, persons who've done a recognised course in h & s.

so in short at the minutes unfortunately as an affiliate there are no letters, though you may be able to continue on and become tech or grad. best of luck with it.

people who just use iosh and not CMIOSH, TECH IOSH or GRAD IOSH are usually just affiliates and spoofing it so watch would you fall into this trap.

Martin,
Without any specific health and safety qualifiations you could join IOSH as an Affiliate Member. This category of membership does not give you the right to use any letters after your name.
If you pass the NEBOSH General Certificate or similar you will be eligble to apply for Technician Membership. You will, however, also need to demonstrate that you have suitable experience in health and safety matters, this will normally be at least 2 years in an OSH full time role although depending on the percentage of OSH your role includes it could be up to 5 years. This can be accumulated before obtaining the qualification. Assuming that you register for and maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) via the MyIOSH portal you will be able to use the designation TechIOSH after your name.
