I am a fire manager previously a H&S Advisor who is looking to get back into H&S work when I finish with the fire service in October. I am a Hazmat responder and may be attaining the RPS qualification shortly. I am thinking about focusing on Hazmat related H&S possibly a DGSA. I am looking at feedback as to options for this type of work, is it viable, rewarding, do you require industry specific experience etc?

Posted By garyh I used to be a DGSA........but now I am not. Thank goodness! I can't say what the market is for your services. It is not clear if you want to be a consultant or employed directly? I would be wary of the term "Hazmat" as it is a term used widely in the USA (and military?) but not in the chemical industry (in which I have 25 years experience). A good place to start would be the Chemical Hazards Communication Society, they have info and contacts in this area. http://www.chcs.org.uk/You might also look at County Fire Brigades re a training role?
