Hi there,
I am after some advice regarding educational progression. I currently have NEBOSH Diploma and Grad IOSH Status (Just sent Skills Portfolio in), and work for a consultancy, clients are predominantly engineering and construction based.
If I achieve CMIOSH status will the MSc give me any benefits (other than maybe possibly more in depth knowledge), and if so would the OHS or Risk Management MSc be the better option, or would I be better off in the current climate attending shorter courses such as lead auditors course etc.
I have read the previous posts regarding MSc's and if attempting would so via distant learning, any course unfortunately would be self funded.
Your thoughts are appreciated
regards
Tony

I think would depend on the benefit you really want from the courses, knowledge and / or money. Also are you looking at he job market or wanting to do your current role better.
Given that a lot of roles tie in with Environment and Quality I would consider a course in one of these? There are some MSc courses that include a module for getting AIEMA.

If you are acting as a CDM Co-Ordinator, it could be worthwhile doing a Construction course to give you an idea of the design process, and how you could advise on the suitability of the design with respect to health and safety, if you haven't done a technical course yet.
Failing that I think it is a good idea to get an environmental dip / ISO 14001 Knowledge and application together with a lead auditor course on ISO 9001 as more more employers / clients are now looking for candidates to have these quals.
John.
