Posted By hal Hello.
I would be interested to hear anybody's views on what the job situation is lke in Dubai at the moment? Due to the current financial climate and the amount of redundancies happening at the minute I am thinking about moving over there.
I am a CDMC, but have NEBOSH Construction & TECH IOSH so if anyone knows of anything going on the H&S side, and could give me a mini tip off it would be appreciated :o)

Posted By David Rimmer Having been here for some 3+ years working on the biggest projects in the area for the largest developer,I have to say that it is enjoyable, however, if you are under the misapprehension that all is rosy please think again. There are many people losing their jobs and it is an ongoing situation. If you have a firm committment from a reputable organisation then go for it but remember there are no guarantees and you could come, incur considerable expense and very soon be redundant, at the end of the day it is your choice. gone are the days of high salaries and plentiful jobs, companies are now being more careful in who they select and hopefully this will raise the standards of safety professionals working here.

Fully agree with David. Don't even consider it unless you've got a watertight offer from a reputable employer before you go.
If you search on 'Dubai' on this forum you will find the same question has come up many, many times before with a lot of useful information having been posted previously.
Good luck.

Posted By FaisalShahzad Its very nice place to work, only one thing is that living cost is very high, even some companies do not pay as agreed in contract.

Posted By Dav There are many positives and many negatives to working in Dubai, but unfortunately the job situation here is just the same as back in the UK at the moment.
Many projects are on hold or have been cancelled, and a lot of people here are losing their jobs.
As the other posters have said only consider it if you have a firm offer. However, bear in mind that even if you do get a firm offer with a company, the project(s) that you would be working on could be pulled at very short notice and if made redundant here, you may be forced to leave the country within 1 month because of the visa rules. Not good if you have moved family out here and paid rent up front in advance.
