Hello,
I like many other people have sat my NEBOSH general cert and passed (with a credit). I am now looking to move on and developed myself, which I am pushing for through my company Balfour Beatty Management. I work as an assistant Quantity Surveyor at Corus and although my role has nothing to do with H&S I am always pushing to get experience such as; I have been out on site visits to see excavations, accident investigations etc through asking and persistence, I also had a meeting with BBM's H&S advisor to ask for help and advice and he seemed positive on the attitude I am showing by taking action myself. I also attended an accident investigation course through BBM to again help me and build knowledge.
I am realistic and realise my experience is very much lacking. I am 23 and wanting to know if they are any trainee positions in H&S to help build up knowledge, experience and a general understanding?
I must admit I did enjoy accident investigation as well as going out on site looking through a job from start to finish with the machinery involved and finding out what it does. I enjoy challenges and like to get a hands on approach, If anyone can help me in any way I would appreciate advice, information on positions etc...

Hi Ralph, thanks for your reply.
I am based in the North-East working in Redcar at Corus and I live in Stockton.

After speaking again with the Health and Safety manager and regularly checking the job opportunities at my work things are not looking too promising within BB.
Ive done allot of searching on the Internet as well even increasing the distance I am willing to travel seems to bring me to dead ends. I feel a bit lost at the moment not sure which way to turn as I have the qualification but not the experience which I knew was going to be the problem, I had hoped they would be more opportunities.

Do you know of any companies that take on trainees or juniors?
Or maybe any other roles that I could try to gain me experience?

As for what I want too do I am not 100% sure as to my ideal job. I know that I enjoy traveling around sites and seeing what happens and trying to gain a great understanding as to why so maybe accidents investigating and overseeing projects are what interests me.
All I know is that if an opportunity arises I will grab it with both hands.
