Posted By Ian G Hutchings Hi
We are researching different recruitment options. Apart from the SHP magazine and SHP4jobs, what do you think are the most popular recruitment sites that people register with? Who do you use?
We are not looking to use a recruitment consultancy.
Those of you who do recruit, what have you found works the best?
Many thanks for your help.
Ian

Posted By Jodie Read Ian, I posted some suggestions here a few weeks ago - but my thread seems to have disappeared!
Feel free to contact me directly and I'll share my thoughts with you. (I may have saved my original post in word format and should be able to send you that).

Posted By Heather Collins Ian - I don't think posting a list of the sites I have been using would go down very well either! Again feel free to contact me directly and I'll be happy to share with you what I did speaking as someone who has been looking for consultancy work recently.

Posted By Spencer Allen I saw Jodie's thread and a couple of days later it had been removed. I've also posted a couple of threads in the last couple of weeks and they also disappeared.
heather is correct a list of sites would be competing with iosh and shp4jobs and wouldn't be acceptable. the mods have a job to do. like traffic wardens essential but unpopular.

Posted By Ian G Hutchings Hello again
Hoping that this is OK with the AUGs. From a job seekers perspective can I pole members to tell me here or off line which online sites they are registered with for job alerts, we are compiling a top ten list and obviously SHP4jobs is one on the list.
Many thanks for your help.

Posted By Spencer Allen I think i share alan's point 'why obviously'.
Shp4jobs would not be my first choice or even in top 20. From experience sum info is out of date etc. Others may have different experiences.

Posted By Ian G Hutchings Hi
Thanks for your comments, with regard to SHP4jobs I considered this as I thought, perhaps incorrectly, that it was a key site for people searching.
Thank you to those of you who have sent me your thoughts.
Best wishes

Posted By Paul I Clark I find it shocking that in a recession, on a professional forum in a 'careers' section, that fellow IOSH members are not able to list recruitment sites they had good experiences with. Again, this is a 'careers' forum right?
I am guessing this is due to IOSH not getting a slice of the cake or maybe I am being cynical as usual?

Posted By Julzhw Hi, I'm new to these forums so apologies if anyone is offended by this request.
If anyone has any helpful sites I could visit, please could you mail them to me as well? I will be starting my NEBOSH construction certificate in the next couple of weeks but I have also recently been made redundant and a start in the field would help quite a lot. I have spent the last 9 years working my way up from site engineer to sub-agent level on construction sites.
Thanks.

Posted By Spencer Allen I agree with Paul Clark it is terrible that in recession times we are unable to help each other. It is even terribler that IOSH doesn't help either.
Just look at the number of persons seeking work on this forum and others prevented from helping by ......? The mods quickly locking the thread. Do they live in ivory towers and are unaware of the difficulties in the real world? Looking at the speed they lock threads, perhaps they have nothing better to do!!
Personaly i use the hsepeople webpage. it much friendlier and some agencies actualy advertise there.

Posted By Heather Collins That's extremely unfair Spencer. The Mods are only doing their job by enforcing IOSH policy as set out in the AUGs. Most of them work full time and they are certainly not paid for the thankless task of Moderating.
Disagree with the policy all you like but don't take it out on the Moderators.

As long as posters make sure their e-mail address is not hidden, they can still be contacted even when the thread is locked, surely?

Posted By Paul I Clark Then perhaps Policy should change, otherwise our members out of work will not be able to pay their IOSH fees and the policy makers themselves may need to help on the job seeking front!

Posted By Phill Sutton Perhaps Spencer is being unfiar about the mods. But it is rather frustrating to have a thread locked so quickly.
Often a jobseeker wants to learn from responses and "immediate" locking prevents this. many others like me are reluctant to post a thread as the policy inhibits any discussion.
I think that heather might be a mod from the gist of her reply?
I also use the hsepeople forum. Discussion is freely alowed and there are no mods.

Posted By Glyn Atkinson It's important to keep abreast of all ways of finding work - in my case as a self employed person.
I have found contract work through many different ways, and have gained work through this Forum and also the [reference removed] site.
I don't like the inter site fighting that goes on between contributors to both sites, but I distance myself from the petty squabbles and use the sites for my needs.
Job sites in whatever manner of publicising used need to have up to date info and also need to remove filled jobs promptly.

Posted By AHS By far the best site just for jobs is the hsejobs.proboards one and for info/chat the HSFB. Obviously cant give the full addresses.
However it is well worth posting on IOSH if you are looking as they can still contact you.

Posted By C. Wright I googled for jobs in health and safety and had a reasonable number of hits some of which I have sent my CV, 3 have had the courtesy to respond acknowledging recipt of my email the others I assume are too busy or lacking in manners. If they are inviting people to be registered with their agency surely it would be polite to reply when someone does.

Posted By Itsme2 Hi all.
I find the [reference removed] website the most useful it's starting to get very busy now with lots of recruiters posting jobs and they have a very handy document library.
I cant post the link but just google [reference removed] it should come up.
I tend to keep a list of recruitment agencies and just post my CV out to them all on a monthly basis reminding them I am available. I get some good response that way. :)

Posted By Neil Tilley It is better that IOSH don't just allow any recommendation of any agent from a member. Guilty by association could be a threat - re: anders/eden brown/hays and the heavy fines recently! The MOD's job is cool with me... I'm waiting on redundancy.. So I google, monster, jobsite, reed sign up... If your C.V. is written well then the right recruitment companies find you from these sites. Make your own list of agency contacts. I tell the truth in that I can get shortlisted for interview with agencies I've never heard of, quite regularly this month. Maybe it depends on what your willing to do. Maybe my goals are too low?
But I'm freelancing for a safety training company and a recruitment agent that neither has interviewed or met me. Continuous trawling the net and applying will get results. Effort will win in the end.
I'm a strong advocate of networking the original groups you may have did your NEBOSH Gen. with and 'connecting' with the people here in the room. It's important to keep contact with like-minded people. It's important to look after your IOSH pages for CPD, forums, friends.
I have a list of agency contacts - Contact me and I'll give you a list.

Posted By Phill Sutton There are a lot of us out there, all in the same boat seeking work. We need to interact with each other. Just look at the number of responses posted to this thread a week ago.
I would post a thread on this forum seeking work but I'm reluctant to do so cos' of the mods. OK as heather says she/they have a job to do. Lucky them!
Surely there could be some relaxation of the rules. Many of us are seeking similar work but in diiferent parts. Responses from like minded folk are helpful and supportive and sometimes productive.
If the mods/iosh don't give us a brake what will happen? We'll wither leave h&s work and/or use other sites like hsepeople.

I am not sure but I think everyone who was looking for work cannot be contacted as their email addresses are no longer visible.
I could be wrong?

Under each post there is a little icon and the letters PM. This is a private messaging service direct to the poster.
It is not their normal e-mail address.
However, I also believe that PMs to those who are currently showing as 'Admin' will not reach the original poster, because they are showing as a single mailbox when you hover the cursor over them.

If you do a google search (set it to UK results) for 'Safety Jobs' the results list quite a few 'specialist agencies' that deal in that field.
Likewise 'Safety Forms'
I'm happy to share details of any agencies / forums that I've used an my experiences with them.
For what it's worth I think that the stance of IOSH on locking threads straight after a person posts and removing details of 'competing' forums / job sources is frankly appalling especially given the current economic climate.
Isn’t it time that this policy is reviewed? After all it seems to benefit no one bar SHP.
As for the Mods, be nice to them it’s not their decision – they are following and implementing the rules as passed down. If you have a grievance about the current policy talk to IOSH about it.

Many thanks Sorry to hear that Kimward ... really sorry. It happened to me, and whilst a shock at the time - I now realise it was the very best thing that could ever have happened to me. Since reverting back to consultancy after a 5 year break as an employee it is picking up to the point that I now seriously question why on earth I allowed myself to get suckered into becoming an employee. The enjoyment factor of seeing potential new clients and securing work is sooo satisfying. Have no fear, it will come right for you if indeed the walk follows the talk. Jonesy
