Hi.
I have just taken the NEBOSH construction certificate (awaiting results) and would be grateful of any advice from any CDM coordinators regarding how to make a start in CDM.
My main expereince lies in having been involved in the construction industry (civils and groundworks)since I left school some 21 years ago, starting out as a labourer progressing to ganger/foreman with laing O'Rourke responsible for implementation of H&S in a hands on role for sections of main deep storm drainage and groundworks along with all that entails i:e permits to work, method statements, work in drag boxes, heavy plant including checks, lifting operations etc etc.
I then went on to work for myself and started a drainage surveying and high pressure jetting business which I unfortunately had to fold some time ago so again I was responsible for H&S.
Company was a small enterprise and work was mainly private and some commercial such as local ground work company business.
I then self funded an HNC in building Technology and Management which I am half way through to add credence to my work experience and have just completed the NCC so like many seeking a change am commited to my professional development and would be grateful for any advice.
I live in the Cardiff area.

Any competent H&S adviser should be able to help. Attend your local IOSH group meeting and ask there. Plus down load a COPY of CDM and its ACOP
All CDM is; is a suggested basic management system noting some specific areas. It does NOT cover all the areas that a construction site may interface with

Are you asking to source information about the CDM Regulations or looking to see how you can eventually become a CDM-C?

From what you have posted you may already be eligible for some points from your work history. http://www.associationfo...ectsafety.co.uk/home.phpThe companies that I have had dealings with in the past will only appoint a CDMC if they are a registered member of APS.

Posted By Paul I Clark Adam, I note you have a background in Civil Engineering and mention this area interests you. Therefore you should also check out ICE's website http://www.ice.org.uk/kn...ge/specialist_health.asp as they sometimes undertake CDM-C training at around £200. This may allow you to become a member of the H&S register administered by the ICE but you need to check this out in detail because I don't know the full details. This register is given the same level as the APS register in Appendix 5 of CDM07 so maybe a different route to consider.
