Do photocopiers still use UV light? I have a member of staff who insists on using the photcopier with the lid open.
I seem to remember reading that this was dangerous because of the UV light source, but that was some years ago, and I can't find any up to date reference
The person concerned is a VDU operator, and is certainly doing their eyesight no good, but I need something a bit more definitive!
Would appreciate any info or steers in the right direction

Old machines probably do, but the modern plain paper copiers, using the Xerox process, have a bright white quartz halogen type lamp.
I don't know how bright a light has to be to cause eyesight damage, although I would have expected that an interlock would be fitted to the lid if the glare was harmful. There may also be an issue of the flash of light distracting other staff in the area.
However, the operating instructions will almost certainly state that the lid should be closed. Your staff member is on pretty thin ice if he/she refuses to operate a piece of work equipment in accordance with training received and the manufacturers operating instructions.
