Posted By Richard Forster As part of our review we are looking again at how and what we present to Senior Management Board as an annual report. We are a Local Authority (LBWF) and traditionally have included the standard fare of accident statistics, training provided, civil investigations, European Week of Safety feedback, new legislation etc. This has usually been presented in 'piecemeal' fashion rather than one big report. In this age of Best Value, performance indicators and working in partnership (not to mention the CD health and safety responsibilities of Directors - **** I've mentioned it....) Is anyone else out there revamping their annual report, if so 1. What would you include 2. How do you make it appealing 3. What reading material is there on this topic ? (did someone cry Turnball ?) Please let me know your thoughts.....

Posted By Tony Harmsworth I do not know if you are aware of it but there is a high level DETR/HSE led group currently working on reporting standards for the public sector. They are due to pronounce around the end of May / early June, but don't hold your breadth. This is part of the revitalising H&S public sector initiative.

Posted By Ian Waldram See the latest HSE Guidance on what should be in public reports - obviously the internal report should provide all that, plus subsidiary data and relevant leading indicators. You are right that it's a great idea for this to be forwarded via the responsible line Depts, not direct by the OSH specialists. Did you know that IOSH provided recommendations to HSE as to what should be included in their guidance, not all of which were accepted? You should be able to get a copy from Technical Affairs Dept, maybe we should make it more widely available now that HSE have pronounced? One particular issue covered in the IOSH/ASSE Seminar on Global Best Practices for Contractor Safety was that the client organisation should include H&S 'results' for their all identifiable contractor resources, not just employees. The best organisations already do this - it can be quite a shock when you start!
