I recently registered with this discussion group and am impressed by the quality and content of messages and discussions posted. I have noted that OHS issues being discussed in the UK are similar to those in Canada, where a number of chat/email discussion groups exist. The most popular Canadian OHS discussion group is run by CCOHS (Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety); one can register by emailing a message containing the word "subscribe" in the subject line to HS-Canada@ccohs.ca

Hi Angelo,
Thank you for the information about Health and Safety Chat Forums in Canada. I am delighted that you think that our Forums are useful and worth joining. Please spread the word locally, and encourage any of your colleagues to join as well.
It is always good to have a colleague who has knowledge of other systems to that of the UK. I also wonder if other subscribers have knowledge of other useful Non-UK forums that might be of interest to IOSH?
Regards,
Martin Bessant,
Lead Moderator for Moderating Team.

Interesting comments. I am a Canadian HSEQ specialist (15yrs) with focus on International Oil & Gas consulting activity. I am at the moment considering completion of both HSE NEBOSH certs.(parts one and two) There will be a great deal of of similar data. If I can be of any assistance to you feel free to make contact. There is one vital difference....the cost of certification. an experienced HSE type can challenge the Canadian CRSP cert. for very little cost. I am somewhat breathless regarding the cost of NEBOSH certification.

Not sure you have fully understood the position. You do NOT require the NEBOSH Diploma to practice in UK, in that sense 'Certification' of individual OSH professionals doesn't exist in UK.
IOSH would certainly recommend that employers, especially in a major hazard sector like oil & gas, should require their appointed OSH advisors to undertake suitable CPD, and the IOSH CPD scheme is designed to be flexible so that the needs of all can be met. Registering for that costs £10 and the content of your CPD plan may not need any expensive training courses if you are thoroughly experienced professional.
Of course, you have to be a member of IOSH first! If you have recognised Canadian OSH qualifications, that may be easy. At present I am working with IOSH and a Canadian national in UK trying to ensure that CSSE understand his UK-aquired qualifications and experience. Our President will be at the CSSE Annual Conference this month if you want to explore the situation.

Ian,
Lets follow this up. I have some other questions you may be able to help me with. On that note I may well be en route to Dubai for HSEQ Audit for UK Oil company. Will likely have details today. Contact me when able.
