Our Hotel is considering the purchase of some expensive American fully motorised Adjustable beds, powered by an electrical motor controlled from a hand held cable.
I have learnt that in America insurance has been declined on these items due to claims of trapped fingers etc.
Is there anyone on the forum involved perhaps within the NHS who might have experience of these things as I am expected to carry out a full risk assessment before a substantial purchase is made. Would the equipment come under PUWER? or LOLLER? as the bed can raise or lower your feet or head, or as one has suggested that being for use by the general public it comes under neither. Any help really appreciated, thanks in advance.

The HSE has published info on the relevance of LOLER & PUWER to such beds. I don't have it to hand and it may have been a 'SIM'; internal HSE info for inspectors but often -as in this case- 'fully open' and therefore available from your local HSE office. I suggest you give them a ring.
