Posted By D Swanson Some pointers needed please. We have an overhead crane in operation in our warehouse, where forklift truck operations are also undertaken. Our risk assessment has highlighted the possibility that the beam of the crane may came into contact with the mast of the forklift. Yes, we can control this to a certain extent through operator controls, training etc. Is anyone aware of other options out there?

Posted By Dave Squires There is the possibility of fitting a safety beam to the crane that will a)stop the crane movement when detcting something in its path and b) sound a warning device that will alert the FLT driver of the overhead danger The crane or servicing agent should be able to determine the possibility of the above. Hope it is of some help Regards Dave

Posted By Robert K Lewis Simple question -Do they both have to operate at the same time? If absolutely so what about using road barriers to prevent access to the operating area of the crane. If you cannot do this then you must separate operations in time. Interlocks etc have a failure rate and in the worst case imagine how it would stand before a jury. Remember LOLER requires a co-ordinating role where there are a number of lifting operations concurrent or liable to cause adverse influence on each other. Bob
