Posted By John Webster Researching a topic I remembered was aired last year, I discovered that I couldn't search back further than October 2001. The old forum, and so its archive, ended on 4th October 2000. What has happened to the years-worth of messages in between and how are they accessed? John

Posted By Website Co-ordinator Hi John, Glad to hear someone’s using the search facility for something that’s over a year old! Time may enter another dimension on websites but I can assure you the archived threads are there and go back to when this version of the forum began in July 2000. You could say it’s a cunning way on my part of finding out who’s using the facility! The “search” facility in the right hand column searches all the threads in the Discussion Forum. This includes all those that have been archived and this is done after they’ve been dormant three months. However, when you request a search for more than a year back, at present there is only one option,” in the past year”, which led to your question. Despite what it says, if you use that, it will search everything, both current and archived threads back to July 2000 to give you your answer. So, many thanks for letting me know. It does need changing and I shall add it to the queue and arrange to have it upgraded with the additional years. In the meantime, think of those past years as a mere year – what a thought! You might like to try this example search. Input keywords, “Aberdeen College”, and scroll the date box to “in the past year”. This brings up three threads. You’ll see they indicate the date of the last posting on each thread. The entire thread is provided to indicate the context. Click on the one headed “Career in health and safety?” to reveal that the initial thread was posted by Nick Broom on July 15 2000. Back to the future, Angela Wheatcroft Website Co-ordinator
