Posted By David .J. Minnery A voluntary organisaton that I am associated with , have just been notified of a planning aplication to erect a 15 metre high telecommunications mast less than 4 metres from the office , naturally there are fears among the employees regarding any possible hazard from this mast . Current legislation forbids the siting of these masts in close proximity to schools , there is obviously a reason for this , can anyone help with any information relating to the safety or hazard of telecommunications masts in or near the workplace , bearing in mind the approximate 4 metre distance . Regards David

Posted By Nick Higginson David, NRPB (National Radiation Protection Board I think) are the people you should talk to. They do some very good free leaflets on this sort of thing. Type NRPB into a search engine, and you should find their website, from which you can order the leaflets. Regards, Nick

Posted By Jack Have a look at the Stwart Report. Its available on-line at http://www.iegmp.org.uk/IEGMPtxt.htm I don't think base stations near schools is "forbidden". From memory, the Stewart Report recommended that Governors should be consulted first.

Posted By David .J. Minnery Thanks to Nick and Jack for their assistance , according to the local planning department masts must not be sited near schools , it appears that there is some research pointing to a possible increase in child luekemia instances . The NRPB site contained dated rather than up to date information , stating that current advice is they are safe but also that further studies are required , I take this as "We do not really know" so if anyone else can point me in the direction of up to date studies in this subject I would be grateful . Regards David

Posted By Philip Roberts David, If you enter the 'Specialist Groups' section of this site there is some relevant information in the Telecommunications Specialist Group area. Good Luck in your search for a definitive answer! Phil
