Anyone know of a legal or other statement on the life span of wooden ladders,
or their relationship to work equipment supplied by an employer in respect of their use.

I'm not aware of any published life-expectancy. It probably depends upon the nature of the wood, construction, storage and use. Regular inspection and records are called for and the old ladder register principle is still a good one.

As far as I am aware ladders are mentioned in the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996. As mentioned previously a pre-work inspection routine should be instigated.
