Posted By Des Daly We have had a second failure of a safety guard return spring on a portable Skillsaw. Both times the user ( who is left handed , the saw is for a rght handed person) has cut their trouser leg off and cut into their left thigh. I wonder if there is any PPE i.e. apron that would provide protection for the user in the case of guard failure. I am told that the spring was inspected on the morning of the accident - but it is so small I do not think it would be possible to identify cyclic loading fatigue without specialised equipment.

Posted By Steve Appleton Hi Des, You could use the protective leggings designed to be used with chainsaws, but I would be inclined to ensure the equipment is used as intended (ie right handed) and review procedures for storage / inspection / maintenance etc
