In general system scaffolds need about twice as many ties as tube and fitting, all else being equal... this reflects that usually they are erected without cross bracing. Tying recommendations are contained in BS5973 for tube and fitting and in manufacturers' handbooks for system scaffolds. 5973 indicates that where ties do not include reveal ties, the expected pattern should be 32-40 sq m per tie (depending on whether of not the ties are removable) for an unsheeted scaffold, or 12.5-16 sq m per tie for a sheeted scaffold. If you have an unsheeted system scaffold, then 20 sq m per tie would be probably about right. Also, if using Hilti's will need some pull-out testing, with proportion depending on material into which anchors are fixed, ie far more if say into brickwork, than into sandstone. Regards, Peter
