Dear all,
Can anyone confirm whether Cyanide is given off as a by-product of burning lamb fleece?
The fleece is fresh, untreated except for Sheep dip etc. Propane is used to burn it off fixtures etc.
Thanks in advance
Andy.

Wool contains the elements carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen which in combination as HCN form hydrogen cyanide. It is probable that some HCN will form when wool is burned (as is the case with all substances containing these elements), but the amount will be dependent on the conditions (temperature, amount of oxygen available, etc)
