IS IT A LEGAL REQUIREMENT TO HAVE A SANITARY VENDING MACHINE IN THE LADIES TOILET. WE ARE REMOVING THE ONE WE HAVE AND QUITE A FEW PEOPLE ARE UPSET BY THIS.

There is no legal requirement to provide SANITARY DRESSINGS, only a need to provide a means for their disposal. However a caring employer may feel it prudent to make such a provision as a gesture to their staff

Have to agree with Stephen. The Workplace (health, safety and welfare) regs 1992 approved code of practice says that there has to be a means for disposing of sanitary dressings, it doesn't say you have to supply them.
Having said that, why would you remove one that is already there?

No not a legal requuirement, but again to take a facility away without due conultation with your staff appears a little insensitive. Is the machine used? Is their a good reason for taking it out?

Oh come on! Saying there is no legal requirement is a bit like saying there is no legal requirement to supply toilet paper!
I would suggest adequate sanitary facilities would include the provision of such machines, regardless of the letter of the law.
Funnily enough I had a similar enquiry last month - my employer wanted to remove all the machines except one!
Have the suppliers recently increased their charges or something?
