Posted By Malcolm Earl A question for all. The company I work for sends employees abroad to work as part of its activities. If an employee is injured whilst working abroad and it is a lost time injury as laid down by RIDDOR, do we as a company have to report it to the HSE? If we don’t does this mean that there are a lot of employees being injured aboard that there are no states for? Has any one got thoughts on this?

Posted By Allan St.John Holt a) No. Read the Regulations or the guidance and you will see there are the usual territorial limitations. b) Maybe. You ought to be logging them, though, as civil claims may be made. The standard of care (reasonable care) applies regardless of work location. Allan

Posted By Nigel Singleton BSc You may however have a duty to report under the EC member states own reporting procedure, if you can ever track down the department that will tell you about it, in the country the accident happened in. I tried to report an accident that happened in Spain, and in the end gave up chasing departments for the correct info on reporting.

Posted By Ken Urquhart You may be required to report the circumstances to the appropriate authorities in the country in which the incident occurred. In Asia Pacific countries you quite specifically are required to report. Former British Colonies and the Commonwealth countries all have reporting systems similar to UK RIDDOR. Most of these countries and the respective Government Departments have good web sites.(Some addresses below) You have to report in mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Malta,to name but a few. Safety and Health Sites/Government Departments for Asia Pacific, Canada,USA, Australia, New Zealand etc., (Some of these may have been updated recently but the general address should get you to the appropriate site eventually).
