Posted By Lorraine O'Reilly I am in the Dimensional stone industry & am reviewing our slab handling, loading & unloading, & storage & am trying to draft Safe Working methods. Does anyone have any experience or advice on this or know if there is any best practice guidelines & where I can get my hands on them... your thoughts would be much appreciated.. thank you :) Lorraine

Posted By Robert K Lewis Lorraine There are vacuum lifting devices for both kerbs and slabs. The HSE are pushing these devices heavily for road operatives and the like. The supplier escapes me but I trust someone will quickly inform us.!! Bob

Posted By Lorraine O'Reilly Thanks Bob, we are already using a combination of cranes & vacuum hoists for lifting so manual handling is not really an issue. However, closed top containers can be a problem to unload, and also if slab has joints or was damaged in transit. There is also the problem of how do you safely remove a curtain top from a container?? Safe slab storage is also a concern. I'm trying to avoid crushing employees...but often they are inside the container while slinging the load...& I would be interested in hearing from others with similar problems. Lor
