Good morning everyone,
Can anybody point me in the right direction for inoculations for the above type of construction work.
Thanks in advance

Dear Lew,
It'll be the good old faecal-oral route; therefore it'll be TABT, Hep A + Polio.
Also consider leptospirosis.
Regards Adrian.

Why not look at the HSE Guidance on Blood Borne Viruses (available on their website). This will give the worst case scenario but also the main precautions.
Hopefully working at an outfall you are some distance from the source of any infections so the risk may be reduced.

Thank you so much for the information.
Am I right that weils is the same as leptospirosis? In addition I didn't think that there was an enoculation for that.
Oh yeah what is TABT.
thanks once again

Lew,
TABT is Typhoid, Paratyphoid A & B, & Tetanus. Remember Hepititis A & Polio.
Leptospirosis is the proper name for weil's disease. Immunisation is possible, but I don't know whether it's available against the strains in the UK.
The preventative measures required, are those for gastro-intestinal illnesses. These are not the same measures as required for Blood-Borne Infections.
The main protective measures are protective clothing, immunisation, good personal hygiene & awareness. Any chills, illnesses = visit to doc. Persons must inform doc that they are working with sewage.
Regards Adrian.

For further information, the HSE did cards that you could give out to your men working at site. One is called, Working with sewage - The health hazards, ING197 and the other is called, Leptospirosis - are you at risk?(commonly called 'the rat card' because it has a picture of a rat on it), IND84.
We gave these out to our estates boys that work on our drains etc. as part of their information, instruction and training.
Check with HSE books to see if they still do them. You can freely photocopy them so you will only need to get one of each.
