What is the current practice with regards to disposal of SHARPS and clinical waste? Has anyone written a policy thatthey wouldn't mind sharing? I work in a medium size further education college and need something in response to a request by senior management!!

Gavin, if you let me have your 'E' mail address I will send you a copy of the risk assessment and method statement we developed. It was for the disposal of sharps found on the motorways but it may give you some ideas.

We are a six site FE College in an inner city area. The janitors on each campus have a sharps box, and are trained in handling (local hospital will help). Boxes are disposed of during the summer break by our specialist contractor, along with our "normal" special waste e.g. waste chemicals, paint, biological specimens etc.
