Could anyone provide any information as to where our company (Property Management), can obtain 'proprietary finger guards'. Also we are increasingly coming across used syringes, do we have to supply (fund) sharps containers or can we get them free of charge. Thank you for your time.

You could try speaking to Carol Ainge at Kidrapt (http://www.childsafety.co.uk) re the finger entrapment protectors.
As to the sharps boxes, we get them from our disposal contractor but you can buy them from first aid supply companies.

Hi Mark, you can try Fingershield who make the plastic concertina style fixture. Their phone number is 0161 272 5500 and they offer a survey facility.
Sharps boxes are one step but don't forget you'll need other equipment to actually pick up the needles & syringes so your best bet will be to purchase a sharps retrieval kit - as Ken says, these are easily available from first aid supply companies. You'll probably find that your local chemist or doctor's surgery will dispose of full sharps boxes for you. While you are waiting to get a box, you can use an old fabric conditioner bottle as these are very thick plastic and have a screw top. Be sure to keep it secure and clearly labelled!

Mark,
You may not be aware that this has been discussed in the past, you will find some related information if you try a search on finger trapping, door closers etc.
Regards
Andrew.

Mark, far be it from me to disagree with others - but syringes may well fall into Group B Special Waste category and need to be placed into properly constructed containers to BS7320 - if they are subsequently to be carried on public roads, the Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regs apply where they MUST be carried in UN type approved containers - any old disused container will not do. Health Services Advisory Committee "Safe Disposal of Clinical Waste" 2nd Edition refers. ISBN 0 7176 2492 7. Regards Bill
