Dear readers,
As the heading refers to asbestos I was wondering if anybody had read this article by christopher booker in this weeekend issue of the sunday telegraph?
He (CB) claims that thanks to his papers campain the much awaited change to the Asbestos at Work Regulations is being held up by Mr Ian Duncan Smith, also that the main reason why the amended regulations had not been signed by the Secetary of State Mr Smith was 'away on holiday'.
CB has been advised by a John Bridle who represents the Asbestos Industry of Canada and has advised a number of company's, in this country, on asbestos issues inside their properties.
CB states that the HSE will be challenged next week by the Federation of Small Business, on the extent to which they have abetted what is fast becoming an unnecessary national disaster.
If this is the case, that a journalist can advise the head of a political party who are both being advised by a person who works for an asbestos comany, that the amended and long awaited changes to the said regulations will ever happen?
Regards.

It's little more complicated than you are making out. I suggest you read earlier postings on this forum to get a better picture.
There are genuine concerns about the HSE research - or rather their interpretation of the available research.
John Bercow MP (now resigned from the Shadow Cabinet) made a good case in the House of Commons, much of which made sense (depending on what side you are on).

There are no safe limits for Chrysotile, hence the reason we should take the same precautions for the safe removal of Chrysotile as we would with amosite, crocidolite etc. The control limits may be different but the same diligent procedures must be adopted for clearances.

Jon.
I agree. When reading the article it was in fact pretty obvious that the chap had not one iota of an idea what he was taking about.
If IDS has advisers like that, no wonder the tories are a joke !!
