Posted By shaun mckeever I am a member of IOSH as a result of my Fire Safety Engineering Qualifications, however, I do not consider myself to be competent in other areas of Health and Safety. I would like to widen my knowledge and work towards RSP but I'm not sure which route to take. I have been advised that I can go straight in at NEBOSH Part II but I am concerned that without having studied Part I, I may be jumping in at the deep end. To do both parts of NEBOSH is an expensive route particularly if I don't need to do Part I. I wonder if it may be better to do an MSc or take some other route. Any advice would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

Posted By Jayne Freeman Hi, I did the 5 day IOSH managing safely course first, which did give me quite a lot of basic knowledge and understanding of the health and safety system. I then went on and completed NVQ level 3 and 4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice, this I found ok, but I felt I did not learn much extra, it just helped me re-organise and tighten up on health and safety management and systems within my company. The only major extra learning was through the monthly tutor group meetings and from fellow candidates. I am now on a MSc course at Birmingham Universtity and I am finding this very beneficial and learning much more. The course covers all areas of health, safety and environment. Hope this information is of use to you. If you want any further info on the MSc course, please do not hesitate to contact me. Regards, Jayne Freeman
