We have had two fires involving Dennis Eagle 23 tonne vehicles where the fire has appeared to have started under the cab or behind the cab. Has anyone experienced similar events?

A friend of mine has investigated a few fires involving vehicles of this type. His name is Joe Thomas and his phone number is 01492 878880. If you contact him say hello for me.

John,
The local authority fire service will have access to detailed statistics both in their area and nationally. Might be worth giving the headquarters a ring.

Some years ago we received a letter from our local HSE office advising about problems with hydraulic fluid/oil being sprayed from small leaks in flexible hoses near very hot parts of refuse vehicle engines, with the result that a serious fire developed from ignition of the spray mist/vapour. This may be what has occurred with your vehicles. Therefore, it would be worthwhile also contacting your local HSE office or the HSE Sector (formerly and more clearly known as a National Interest Group or NIG)which deals with local government services and is based in Chelmsford.
