Posted By Adam Courlander Twice a year we display Garden Statuary outside prior to selling the items at auction. The structures are often temporary and can be large and heavy. We also have ponds to display water features. On the one hand we want to display items in their best way but at the same time safely. Is anyone aware of any legislation specific to the safe display of the above, say in garden centres, or can offer any guidance. Many thanks

Posted By Ken Taylor As this is part of work, there will be the usual duty to see that this is safe and without risk so far as is reasonably practicable (under HASAWA 74). The usual 'industry standard' (from my frequent visits to garden centres) seems to be siting statuary away from the pedestrian paths (so that you have to deliberately walk into the statue area) and displaying warning signs about keeping children under control, BS pictogram signs indicating that they may topple over and notices telling people that they are heavy and that the assistannce of a member of staff should be sought.
