Posted By Geoff Burt I've been asked about advanced driver training and hoped there was some experience out there with reference to costs, suppliers, advantages, disadvantages and so on. Anyone willing to help? Geoff

Posted By Mark Jarman Geoff, Both the Institute of Advanced Motorists (iam.org) and RoSPA Advance Drivers Association offer training. If you are looking for discounts for training a number of company car drivers, then I do know that the IAM has a fleet section that would cater for this. Regards Mark

Posted By Jim Sweetman Geoff, I took my Advanced Driving test four years at a cost of £30, for the test, and running costs for my car during drives with an IAM Observer (basically driving lessons) and during the test. This qualified me to join the IAM at a subscription of £15 per annum, which in turn gave me the 'statutory' monthly magazine and access to a network of Advanced Drivers and associated activities. All these costs I bore myself, I'm sure that an employer could be convinced that it would be a good investment. As has been mentioned in a previous response, IAM do have fleet rates. Whilst I can advise that the costs are almost minmal, as an advantage, there is also a disadvantage. That is personal attitude. If the persons going through the Advanced Driving are willing volunteers there should be no problem. If they have been compelled by management/policy to attend this training, then they will be unwilling to go through further driving lessons with the associated criticism. During my training, my Observer frequently mentioned instances of 'lack of interest' by fleet candidates. Having said that, I can strongly advise that any driver takes advantage of this free training even though they may decide against sitting the test. IAM members support this, as the aim is for improved driving as opposed increased IAM membership. The worst you can face is having some aspects of your driving style criticised - constructively, I might add. Happy miles, many smiles. Regards Jim

Posted By Geoff Burt Thanks for the responses - we're still looking at the various options. Does anyone have any experience of the company Drive Alive Ltd they would be willing to share? Geoff
