Posted By Paul Huber I have been informed that one of our contract workers has TB. While not currently infectious he has been infectious over the past few weeks. He has been on a customer site and one of our sites for a training course. Therefore some of my employees have been exposed. I am not sure what action has been taken by the other two affected companies but they are on the case. Does anyone know what sequence of action I should take. I assume that his employer has reported the infection. Do I need to: Inform the HSE or other? Inform my employees? What else? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Paul

Posted By Jerry Sanderson Paul, Try talking to your local Health Authority.They should have a nominated Consultant in Communicable Diseases who should be able to give you all the information you need reference what action you should take. Regards. Jerry.

Posted By Ken Taylor TB is notifiable by the attending doctor to both the CCDC and Environmental Health - both of which should be able to advise you. The latest guidance I have is that the usual incubation period is 4-12 weeks and the infectious period up to 2 weeks following instigation of treatment.

Posted By David Waterton hi. your local health board will have produced a control of infections manual. You culd get a hold of that for future reference. generally speaking it is not that likely that casual contact will cause TB in others. The main exception being the old and frail. An employer must report a case of TB in an employee to the local health officials. They will decide whom may require screening. Obviously anyone else showing signs of TB should go to their GP without delay.
