Posted By Andy Essex Where a changing room is required to be provided to comply with Reg 24 of the Workplace (H&S Welfare) regs 1992, can it be deemed reasonably practicable to use the toilets? I would be grateful for views on this.

Posted By Anju Aslam Hi Andy, A changing room or rooms should be provided for workers who change into special work clothing and where they remove more than outer clothing. Changing rooms should also be provided where necessary to prevent workers' own clothing being contaminated by a harmful substance. If both men and women and working in the site you will have to provide separate facilities for them Anju

Posted By Brian Dawson Andy if you look at the rest of the ACoP accompanying Reg 24 you'll see that a toilet would not normally be reasonably practicable. Eg seating, accomodation for clothing, large enough for max no of persons at any one time.

Posted By Kevin West Taking a brief look at INDG 293 and INDG 244, It states that Changing rooms should: * Be readily accessible * contain or lead directly to clothing storage and washing facilities * provide seating * provide a means for hanging clothes (at least a hook or peg) * ensure the privacy of the user. You must provide enough changing rooms for the number of people expected to use them without overcrowding or unreasonable delay. Account should be taken of starting and finishing times of work and the time available to use the facilities. Further information can be found in the Workplace Health Safety and Welfare ACOP. In short, it is unlikely that the toilets will be deemed satisfactory for use as changing rooms.
