Posted By GJS HI.I HAVE ONLY BEEN A MEMBER OF THIS FORUM FOR A WHILE AND HAVE ALREADY PICKED UP SOME USEFUL INFORMATION REGARDING HEALTH AND SAFETY AND IT SEEMS EVERYBODY IS WILLING TO HELP YOU AND GIVE SOUND ADVICE WHICH I FIND VERY SATISFYING.THE PROBLEM IS AFTER READING MOST OF THE THREADS AND READING SOME OF THE ANSWERS SUPPLIED I FIND MYSELF QUESTIONING MY OWN LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE,I AM GOING FOR A H+S MANAGERS POSITION TOMMORROW AND WISH I HAD SOME OF YOU GUYS GOING WITH ME TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS FOR ME. IT JUST GOES TO SHOW ROME WASNT BUILT IN A DAY.. DICUSS

Posted By Paul Bellis I am just curious, if you have limited knowledge of Health and Safety - do you fit the criteria they ask for in the job description for the Safety Managers position? I would suggest a crash course in Health and Safety Management,you can achieve the General certificate in a block course of two weeks, although I personally feel that the minimum qualification for a safety Managers position is MIOSH, by whichever route and preferably RSP,, luckily for most the majority of employers dont agree and are confused anyway as to who is a competent safety advisor anyway - I feel a thread comming on

Rome wasn't built in a day - but as we used to say in the construction industry (all together, now) "That's because I wasn't the project manager on that job". Seriously, if you're going to participate in the Forum, you need to be aware that writing in capitals is called 'shouting' and is not good netiquette. The reasons I think the Forum flourishes are that nobody is rubbished for asking obvious questions, and the answers are top class. Even the non-technical threads are interesting to read.

Posted By Robert K Lewis Allan and I are in danger of being regarded as a mutual appreciation society (you need to look at other threads to understand this comment) but I agree with him that the real strength is to treat all as equals with something to offer. We bring different skills, background and experience to bear on problems. Don't get too down about things it takes time to be able to say "when I was a lad"- none of us will be identical. Confidence in your own analysis grows with time and we are always learning new lessons and ideas. When that stops we are dead, that applies to the Institution also in my view. Bob

I do remember one memorable thread about earthquakes (Allan - maybe you were on your sabbatical!) which was rightly rubbished, but generally I find the questions and answers (especially mine) to be of very high quality. Posted By Dave Wilson GJS, Thought I would leave this until after the interview, how did it go I am really interested. No disrespect mate but how can an employer interview someone for a H&S Managers Job which obviously has PPC / IPPC requiremets with regards to discharges to controlled waters with, I assume no relevant, qualifications or experience. Sorry to put this under your question but I really am amazed. If you get this position I would get some advice and help ASAP mate.
