Posted By Martyn Hilditch Does anyone know whether there is a legal requirement for contractors (builders, maintenance etc) to hold a valid Construction Passport Card, similar to that of the CITB.

Posted By Steve Roots Martin As far as I am aware there is no legal requirement, however it is seen as good practice when appointing a contractor. Most of our clients request that as a minimum all opratives working on the site are SCATS registered (Engineering Construction Industry Training Board - Client/Contractor National Safety Group Safety Passport) before carrying out their own site inductions. In addition we look at H&S at pre-qualification stage to ensure that the companys H&S systems are in line with the clients.

Posted By Jay Joshi There is no explicit legal requirement in health & safaety legislation to hold the construction passport. However, it has become impossible to work on construction sites operated by the members of the Major Contractors Group (MCG) of the Construction Confederation unless operatives hold the CSCS/other accredited scheme cards. Other principal contractors & clients are having similar requirements. The scheme essentially ensures that the card holder has buildng/construction skill(s)/qualifications and has passed a health & safety awareness test. More details can be found at the CSCS website:- http://www.cscs.uk.com The Engineering Construction industry has a similar scheme "CCNSG". More deatils can be accessed at:- http://www.ecitb.org.uk/...port/safetypassport.html
