Posted By Steve Holliday At the factory I work at, as part of the psycological warfare (sorry I mean Human Factors) that is an important part of H&S, we put small slogans on the mirrors to act as thought provokers. Things like "It's better to be careful 100 times than to be killed once" (Mark Twain) and "Who is the person who can have the most influence on your safety. You are looking at them". My problem is we are running out of slogans. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thay should be short and sweet and safety related. Please try to keep it clean as women & children may be watching!

Posted By Sean Fraser There is a good point here. People are often looking for quotes and phrases that are safety related. I wonder how much scope there is for a book here . . .? Or perhaps SHP could consider running a column with such items in it which could be built up over time? Unless of course someone already knows of a volume already on the market!

Posted By Ken Lucas Steve This might be useful. It is only when people realise that they are largely responsible for their own safety that their behaviour changes and not when restrictions are imposed upon them. Regards Ken

Posted By Eric Burt Why not make up your own - they may be corny but they will get SOME type of reaction. How about a prize (IOSH ?) for the worst. To get you started may I suggest..... "Fools rush in, whereas angels risk assess". "A life without risk is not life" (maybe not one we should promote, but original anyway!) Eric

Posted By Kevin West That reminds me of a similar piece of advice from an old Fireman when completing fire extinguisher training. "If you cannot 'urinate' on the fire to extinguish it then leave it". (not his exact words, it has been sanitised somewhat!) He was of course referring to whether one should fight a fire using an extinguisher or leave it, determined by the size of the fire. ;o)
