Posted By Dave Wilson There are loads out there mate, if you go to the www.HSE.gov.uk web site you can get loads of info yourself, it would be better to understand what the 'legal' standing is of each and work from that angle.

Have a look at
L23 - Manual handling - (guidance)
L24 - Workplace health, safety and welfare (ACoP)
L21 Management of health and safety at work - ACoP and guidance
Available from HSE books, any good book seller, your local business library or you could try the Env. Health Dept of your District Council.
There is a section at the beginning of each book that explains the difference between an ACoP and guidance.

If you have a copy of Allan St. John's "Principles of Health and Safety at Work" (if not why not? - just kidding) then there are two quick paragraphs on just this subject under the section "Statute and Common Law". That should explain the differences for you.
