Posted By Bob I was hoping someone may be able to help. I realise it is a duty for employers to carry out a fire risk assessment. I keep hearing 'rumours' that next year fire certificates are no longer going to be needed and risk asessments will superceed them. Is anyone able to confirm this as all my research to find a difinitive answer (i.e. back up by fact rather than hearsay) has proved fruitless so far. If fire certificates are being phased out, does anyone know what will happen with places such as night clubs, cinemas etc. where conditions are placed on numbers to be on the premises. Many thanks in advance.

Posted By John Donaldson There was a consultation document issued by ODPM last September covering these matters. You will find it at http://www.safety.odpm.g...sult/legislate/index.htm I suspect this is all on the Governments back burner until the ongoing fire dispute is resolved.

Posted By John Donaldson I should have added that the Licensing Bill which is presently before Parliament also impacts on these matters, where clubs, licensed premises and PELs are involved.

Posted By Hilary Charlton I have heard about this as well but have been advised to wait until the music stops and they work out what is and is not going to be required. There is some discussion about a fire box being mounted outside the building inside which will be floor plans, fire alarm zones, first aid equipment and so on. I have spoken to several fire precautions companies on this and even they are not sure at the moment what is happening. I should wait and see, I am sure that provision for your type of environment will be made in some form or another but it seems to be a bit of a wishy-washy type affair at the current time. Hilary

Posted By Ken Taylor Places of public entertainment are additionally licensed in consultation with the fire authority and I have not heard that there is any intention to end this system.
