Posted By Robert Ball I am curently investigating the benefits of using health and safety psychometric testing as part of our recruitment process for safety critical staff. Safety critical staff for us are those that drive vehicles, service vehicles or those that work in an operational role dealing with MOP near vehicles. Do any of the members currently use H&S specific testing?. Have you been able to prove the benefits i.e reduced accidents for new staff?. I am interested in particular in any systems that are related to driving attitude / safety, are members able to advise on details of systems that are available in the marketplace. One of the key points would be the ease of use and speed of results. I have details already of a US system called ESI. I understand that this produces a definate yes/no profle of safety attitude which can be used to determine if the recruitment process for an individual should contine or not. Have any members any experience with the ESI system that they are will to share. I would apreciate any help you may be able to offer.

Posted By Merv Newman Robert,
I can't answer your question in any detail as I have no experience of these tests.
I do remember that when we were recruiting 300 new people for a du pont site we looked for team players (footbal, rugby, whatever) rather than individualists - athletes, hang gliders, mountain climbers. I may get stick on this from other members, but after that recruitment wave (1984), we never had another LTI (500 employee site)

Posted By Jim Walker I've yet to see any scientific evidence that Psychometric testing (for any reason) has any validity. In my opionion, it is peddled by modern day snake oil salesmen.
I'd be happy if anyone out there could show me the error of my ways.
