To save me reinventing the wheel, can anyone help with an audit form for assessing needs for disabled visitors (NOT employees) to retail / public access areas ?
With October 2004 looming any help appreciated.

Email your address to me and I will send you an audit (about 20 pages in total)which you may find useful.
Disabled Living Foundation in London run courses on access auditing (2 day) - give them a call they are most helpful (number through directory operator).
Hope this helps.

The DDA is not merely about access for wheelcahir users and requires an in depth knowledge of user needs. I would reccommend that you employ an access consultant who is experienced in this area and who carries appropriate insurance for this highly specialised subject. I'd recommend CS2 - the coutries leading access consultants - one of them was involved in writing BS 8300 which is current best practice. Tel: 01604 646480 ask for Clair Parfrey.
Hope this helps

I have obtained all relevant publications from the Disability Rights Commission and the DfES and used the accessibility audit pro-formas from 'Access for Disabled People to School Buildings' (DfES Building Bulletin 91) - from the Stationery Office.

Thanks to all who responded. I will be employing an external auditor for our main sites to assess all areas which are accessible to the public. They will consider all issues - mobility, sensory impairment, mental disability etc
The audit forms I have received are to help me assess smaller, remote sites which do not have the volume of visitors or the complexity of our main site - thanks again to all those who contributed.
