I am trying to identify training providers who can offer Training in Ergonomics for our DSE assessors, they have already done a DSE assessors course, but wish to increase their knowledge in this area. Does anybody have any knowledge of courses or can anybody recommend any courses or training providers who may specialise in this area.

A very popular option for a lot of health and safety personnel is the BIOH (British Institute of Occupational Hygienists) advanced module in 'Ergonomics Essentials'. This is a 5 day course offered by a few organisations; there is an optional exam at the end to obtain a certificate.

The provider that I would suggest (but then I would wouldn't I) is the Robens Institute in Guildford. The next course is in October (wk of the 13th) and the admin/info contact is Carole Barlow (tel 01483 879213) (C.Barlow@surrey.ac.uk )

Depending on how far your people want to go the Robens separately offer a modular MSc in Health Ergonomics (11 five-day modules plus dissertaion) - same contact person.

I attended the 5 day course at the Robens Institute a couple of years back and found it good. It's worth saying that it's pretty generalised, we looked at lots of different aspects of ergonomics, including anthropometry, risk assessment, manual handling (half a day), DSE (half a day), psychology, human error etc.
I learnt more about DSE assessment in the 2 day course (assessed) at IOSH, but your assessors may have already done that length course?
